Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Subclass 191 Visa

The Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Subclass 494 visa is a replacement for the previous Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Subclass 187 visa (Direct Entry stream).

The Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Subclass 191 visa, scheduled to commence on 16 November 2022, is for people who have worked, studied and lived in a designated regional area of Australia while holding a previous, eligible visa.

The Subclass 191 visa provides a pathway to permanent residence in Australia for eligible holders of the Subclass 491 visa and Subclass 494 visa.

How to qualify

Requirements to qualify for the Subclass 191 visa include having lived for no less than 3 years in a designated regional area of Australia and having earned a taxable income equal to or above the specified income threshold for at least 3 years.

Applicants for a Subclass 191 visa will also need to meet health and character requirements.

Including family members

Family members who hold an eligible visa granted on the basis they were members of the primary applicant’s family unit may be included in the Subclass 191 visa application.

The family members are to be included in the Subclass 191 visa application at the time when you lodge the application; they may not be added to the Subclass 191 visa application once the application has been submitted.

Criteria for family members who are included in your Subclass 191 visa application include meeting health and character requirements.

Pathway to citizenship

Holders of the Subclass 191 visa can stay permanently in Australia as well as work and study anywhere in Australia. Eligible persons who have been granted a Subclass 191 visa may apply for Australian citizenship.
